Biographical Information and Exhibits
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree and have also studied at the Sorbonne, Paris, Oxford University, England, the University of Toronto, the Ontario College of Art and Design, and Savannah College of Art and Design.  I have spent over twenty years painting and sculpting while teaching art at college and university in Toronto and more recently in Beaufort and Hilton Head Island, SC.  Before coming to the University of South Carolina Beaufort in January 1999, I taught art classes for many years in Toronto at Seneca College, the North York Board of Education, Toronto Parks and Recreation, and the Northview Group of Artists.

I was born into a family of celebrated artists; my grandfather was the internationally renowned etcher, Arthure William Heintzelman, and my father, Cranston Heintzelman, was a well known architect and sculptor.  My sculptor father was instrumental in teaching me an understanding and awareness of form and space that guides all my creative efforts--whether in drawing, painting, print work, or sculpture.  I started my art-making activities at an early age; when I was eight years old I carved my first sculpture from a large block of salt -- a salt lick-- that my father brought from a farm supply depot.

My artwork is in numerous private collections and in the City of Toronto's corporate collection, and the University of South Carolina-Beaufort's Pritchard's Island paintings collection in the library at the New River Campus.  My paintings, print works, and sculpture have been shown at a number of art association exhibitions in Canada and the United States. My sculpture has won several awards including a "first in class" at the International Woodcarver's Show, Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto, Canada.

I am a founding member of the Multi Media Arts Guild, Kingston, Ontario, a member of the Beaufort Art Association, Hilton Head Art League, the Apple Pie Painters, and a lifetime member of the American art honorary society, Delta Phi Delta.

I exhibit regularly on Hilton Head Island, SC at the Hilton Head Art League.   In Beaufort, SC, I am represented by the Charles Street Gallery, 914 Charles Street, Beaufort, SC., 843-521-9054.
